An internal combustion engine burns fuel to create power and this process creates exhaust gases. If you notice that your exhaust system is not running properly, Jack's can help. 

Your exhaust system is made up of a variety of components that all work together to filter the exhaust fumes away from your car and through the tailpipe. These parts include: 

• Muffler- If you notice that your car has gotten louder, it could be because of problems with the muffler. 
• Tailpipe- The tailpipe gives the gases and water vapor an exit out of your vehicle.  
• Catalytic Converter- This piece of the exhaust system creates a reaction that transforms toxic gases from internal combustion engines into less toxic pollutants before they exit the vehicle. 

Sometimes you may forget about your exhaust system because it may seem like it doesn't have a direct impact on your vehicle and whether it will drive or not. However, the exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is extremely poisonous If your exhaust is not properly filtering away from the passenger area of your car, you could be at risk. 

Serious exhaust leaks are a safety hazard. If you notice any of the following, be sure to bring your car into Jack's Brake & Alignment to have your exhaust checked: 

• Rattling when idling - If your car is rattling when it's not moving, like when you're at a stoplight, then it needs to be checked. 
• Engine vibrations- If your engine is vibrating when you're operating your car, or if the steering wheel or pedals seem to vibrate or rumble, then an exhaust leak could be the problem. 
• Less fuel efficiency- Notice your car getting worse gas mileage? Your exhaust could be the problem. When your exhaust is leaking it makes the engine work harder which requires more fuel.
