Davenport, IA Transmission Repair Service

Transmission

Are there different types of transmissions?

Yes, there are different kinds of transmissions, manual and automatic.

  • Manual- Manual transmission vehicles are slightly more affordable and usually cost less to maintain- one reason being, they get better gas mileage. When driving a manual transmission you have to manually shift the vehicle to the next gear when it needs it. Manual transmissions are also known as stick shifts.
  • Automatic- Automatic transmissions do all the work for you so that you don't have to manually switch gears. Because of this, automatic transmissions usually cost more and they're more expensive to repair than manual transmissions.

How can I tell if my transmission is having problems?

There are several warning signs that your transmission may be experiencing issues. Some of these signs include strange smells, strange sounds, noisiness, a check engine light, no response during a gear change, fluid leak, clutch drag, shaking during gear shifts, and refusal to go into gear. Additionally, other signs of a bad transmission may include clunking, burning smells, gears grinding, slow or no response, fluids leaking, a warning light on, and noisy neutral. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's recommended to have your transmission checked by a mechanic to avoid more expensive repairs down the road.
